SARS-CoV-2 can infect human brain organoids
Together with colleagues from the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) we were able to show that SARS-CoV2 can infect cells (including neurons) in human brain organoids. We currently test small molecule compounds with the predicted ability to counteract this infection. It will be very interesting to investigate what the future consequences of neuronal infection are and whether this has implications particularly for long COVID.
The project received funding from the Luxembourgish Ministry of Economy.
Here is a press article (in German) describing the whole project in more detail.
